Why Do We Allow
Government To Define Our Reality?
November 13, 2005
I am a believer in the
possibility that extraterrestrial
life exists somewhere in this infinite Universe though I have my doubts
if any
aliens have made it to earth. I
am open
to the possibility that it has happened or can happen.
But as of yet I have seen no definitive
proof that allows me to proclaim, “yes aliens have visited
earth”.
There
is of course a heaping pile of circumstantial
evidence, first hand accounts, photographs, and even video footage
which
strongly suggests some sort of advanced technology exists (perhaps
alien in
origin, perhaps not) or that unexplained natural phenomena are
witnessed by
countless thousands of people on a fairly regular basis throughout the
world.
It
is not out of the realm of possibility to entertain such
ideas as Government Black Ops programs being mistaken for Alien
UFO’s. It
is also not out of the realm of
possibility that Aliens from some other part of space have visited
Earth. What is
fascinating to me is that the Government
fully denies the existence of Alien UFO’s and because of this
simple fact most
people believe the sightings of Alien UFO’s are nothing but
the by-product of a
person’s wild imagination, elaborate hoaxes, drug or alcohol
induced stupors,
side effects of mental illness, or mere fabrications for the only
purpose of
making a profit. It
is no big secret
that the Alien Industry is huge; millions of dollars are spent every
year on
extraterrestrial books, TV programming, movies, seminars, conferences,
and
other related paraphernalia.
One
of the more fascinating discussions I had with a friend
recently centered on our conditioning as a society to not believe
anything
unless our Government acknowledges it.
This
came up one day as my friend and I discussed the
possibility of the existence of Aliens.
I made some off-hand remark about how the United
States Government still
denies Aliens exists and because of this most people in the United
States do not believe extra terrestrials have ever visited
Earth. My friend
was shocked, appalled, and
borderline offended by my statement.
“Why
do we need the Government to tell us when something is
real or not?” He
shot back at me.
I
had no answer except “what do you mean?”
He
went on to say:
“Why
is it that no one believes something is true until the
Government says it’s true?
What makes
it so that the Government has the final authority over our existence
and
reality? On top of
that, why do we
insist on believing that whatever our Government says is
true?”
I
honestly had no answer for my friend.
I understood his questions, its relevance to
the discussion, and felt his frustration but I could not answer his
question
directly.
As
time went on I thought more and more about how we as a
society in the United States require Government to validate nearly all
aspects
of our existence. Examples
of this
phenomenon can be found in all aspects of our lives.
Many
people will refuse to believe global warming is real as
long as our Government says it is not real.
Many
people still believe Saddam Huessein had ties to AL
Qaeda, links to the 9/11 attacks, stockpiles of WMD, a fully
reconstituted
nuclear program, and was an imminent threat to the United States. Why do people believe this? The reason is because our
President keeps
saying these things as if they were fact.
The
reliance on authority in defining our realities is
nothing new. For
the longest time dogma
told people the world was flat and the earth was the center of the
Universe. It took
over a thousand years
to change this world-view. Why? Because the powers at be
told the masses
that the earth was flat and the center of the Universe.
There
is a certain psychological pathos that exists in
nearly all human beings. This
pathos is
a need to be told not only what to do, but also what to think, and how
to act
as well. The
majority of human beings
are followers and do not think for themselves.
For
too many years authorities have taken advantage of this
trait and continue to do so to this day.
The
Native People’s of the Americas were viewed as a threat
because governments told us they were.
So, we systematically exterminated them while
thinking we were doing
God’s Will. Women
were thought to be
second class citizens because our Government told us this was the case. It was not until
Government granted women
the right to vote and more recently made the conscious move toward
equal rights that
women began making in-roads in such a male dominated society.
Communism
was a threat to the United States.
Why?
Because the Government told us it was.
Slavery
was acceptable to most people in this country until
Government told us it was wrong and subsequently made it illegal.
This
process of allowing Government to define our realities
permeates all aspects of our existence.
Many of the Government’s perceptions for
our reality have beneficial
affects. We all
look to the FDA to
determine which medications we take are safe and which ones are not. Most of us that eat meat
do not think twice
about consuming that meat if it has passed inspection by the USDA.
Some
of the permeations of Government into our realities do
not have beneficial affects and may even have negative consequences. Our Government has an
agenda and that agenda
is not always what is in the best interest of The People.
Sometimes the Government lies
to its People
and The People believe the Government no matter how obvious the lie is. Most people just cannot
believe the
Government would lie to them. Others
may
accept that the Government may lie to them from time to time but they
still think
that the Government has The People’s best interest at heart.
Because
of these forces at work in our reality and because
of the modern age of media we must learn the discipline of
investigation. We
must learn to critically think about
problems related to our perceptions of reality.
We must not take what any entity, Government or
otherwise, says
as fact until we have performed our own investigation into the matter.
With
the advent of the Internet, information flows freely
around the world. The
next time you
have questions about something or have doubts and reservations about
what a
person says do your self a favor.
Do
some research and make an informed decision.
The most effective way to change our reality is to
gain knowledge and
become a better informed citizen.
If we become
better informed as a society I believe our reality and how we perceive
it as a society will
change for the better.
